CENDI Interest Areas — MODELS FOR ELECTRONIC ARCHIVES
The CENDI Secretariat is working on a project for the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI) and CENDI (an interagency working group of federal STI managers) concerning digital electronic archiving.
By this we mean primarily the archiving of information that was disseminated or published in electronic form or for which the electronic archive will be the primary or sole archive, rather than paper.
Our focus is on operating projects or ones close to launch, not paper studies or proposals. We hope to identify models that could be used by other organizations addressing this issue. Of particular interest are issues of start-up and ongoing costs, resources, long-term access, policy issues such as intellectual property and security, and the responsibilities taken by various entities in the information chain (users, publishers, creators, vendors, libraries, etc.).
The scope of the project is international, but we are focusing on scientific and technical information of all data and format types, e.g. numeric data, text, audio, video, etc.
YOU CAN HELP
If you know of any projects, we would be most interested in a reference to the project and/or a person to contact. If anyone knows of another initiative to identify models of similar scope, that would also be valuable. E-mail your input to firstname.lastname@example.org.
